Journalist

Tyler Kingkade is an award-winning journalist based in Los Angeles, known primarily for his coverage of abusive treatment of young people, culture war fights, sexual assault and harassment cases, extremism, and reporting on vulnerable populations.

He is currently a national investigative and enterprise reporter for NBC News.

Previously, he was on staff at BuzzFeed News, as part of the National desk, and before that, a senior editor at HuffPost. He has also written for The Atlantic, Vice, Town & County, The 74, Teen Vogue, among other publications.

Tyler has been a semi-finalist for the Goldsmith Prize from Harvard University’s Shorenstein Center, a finalist in the Education Writers Association awards, and honored by the LA Press Club, New York University, and Syracuse University. As part of a 2017 awards ceremony specifically for articles covering sexual assault, Tyler’s work was named the “Best Everyday Journalism” by the Poynter Institute in partnership with Raliance. His articles have resulted in legislation, prompted many state government investigations, and forced companies to get rid of wrongdoers.

He graduated from Iowa State University and studied political journalism at Georgetown University through The Fund for American Studies. In a previous life, Tyler was in a band that played the Warped Tour twice.
